A Day at the San Francisco Zoo

Our friends Jason and Kristine are so good at finding free and cheap fun things to do. The first Wednesday of every month is free for SF residents....I think that's when we went. Correct me if I'm wrong Kristine.



The SF Zoo is so much more lush than the one in SLC. It was really green everywhere with a lot of vegetation.



The gorilla was acting really grumpy. It is so weird how human like they are. From the back when he was walking he just looked like a REALLY hairy guy!

This was the weirdest thing I have ever seen. It's called a Dik-Dik. It was tiny! I think it looks like a cross between a rabbit and a dear.

Jon is as tall as a gorilla is wide.

I was chasing this peacock all around to try and make it spread its feathers out, but it never did!

I always wondered what we would look like if we were giraffes.

When I first saw the koala bears I though they were fake, because they weren't moving at all. They are real though. I guess what they do is sit in one place until they have eaten all the eucalyptus leaves and then they move to a new branch. They basically are really lazy and just eat and sleep.

The kangaroos were awesome. I think this is the first time I have ever seen one before. Their tails are so strong. They use it to balance on.

The most expensive cotton candy I have ever bought. But it was worth it.

The penguins were so fun to watch. We came at a good time while they were being fed. They just swallow the fish whole. Some of them ate three or four of them!

I think this is the ugliest animal I have ever seen!

Everybody had a fun time in the insect part of the zoo. It was kind of creepy and I felt like I had things crawling all over me by the time we left.

The prairie dogs were really cute. They all came out to say hi when we walked up.

So I guess a lot of the animals they have at this zoo are animals that they have saved. This eagle was hit by a car and lost her right wing. The zoo saved her. We got to see the zoo lady feed the eagle. She gave her a whole mouse and the eagle ripped it in half. It was kind of gross.

Jon Haynie was having a hard time leaving the ocean. I guess there were really good waves.

Halloween

Halloween was very different this year from what Jon and I are used to. We only had one group of trick-or-treaters come by, but I am so glad that they knocked on our door! They were so cute!

Jon and I obviously didn't put as much effort into our costumes as everybody else, but we still had fun. Oh and by the way, toilet paper is actually really warm! I got so sweaty. I am a mummy if you couldn't tell and Jon is white trash. Mark and Lisa put on a really fun Halloween party in their apartment. I have no idea how we did it, but we fit so many people into their one bedroom apartment!

Eric and Brooke. This was a good Adam and Eve costume, but it kind of freaked me out. Every time I saw them out of the corner of my eye I thought they were really naked!

Sarah and Patrick....I mean Palin and McCain.One of the games Mark and Lisa planned was a race to see who could wrap their partner up like a mummy the fastest with a roll of toilet paper. We totally beat everybody! It's probably because we had already practiced doing that eariler that night....and I'm a really fast spinner!
I had to end with this picture, becuase it is the ugliest/funniest/wierdest picture I have ever seen of myself. This was in the middle of me spinning around as fast as I could.....obviously not paying any attention to my facial expressions! I am pretty sure that is the best double chin I have ever seen!

New Shoes!

I finally got new running shoes. There was hardly any sole left on my old running shoes. Oh yea, it also turns out that I was running in shoes two sizes too small. That's why my toenail fell off! I went to Runner's Corner in Utah and they are very knowledgeable about running and shoes. They watch you run, look at the wear on your old running shoes and from that they determine what type of shoe would be good for you.

Theses Mizunos feel so wonderful when I run. It feels like I'm not even wearing shoes. I guess that's what it's supposed to feel like instead of jamming your toes into the end of your shoe every step. Thanks mom and dad for helping me by paying for part of them and sitting there while I tried on 50 different pairs of shoes!

Utah Trip

It was weird going to Utah and actually seeing trees changing colors. It really felt like fall. I kind of forgot that it was fall because in SF it is still pretty green. Especially by our house surrounded by eucalyptus trees that don't change colors. These red leaves are on the front of my parents house. And the picture on the right is some of my mom's flowers. They really reminded me of being home.

This is our cat, Ginger. He/She slept with me every night. He/she is such a good snuggler. I forgot how much I love hearing cats purr. (I say he/she because we always thought she was a girl and just recently found out she is a he, but I still think of him/her as a she.)

Dad took me out to lunch at Cafe Rio. Mmmmmmm.

My dad just got a new road bike, so I borrowed my mom's road bike and we went on a ride up the canyon. It was a bit chilly, but was so beautiful! So many different colors.

Check out the amazing blue sky! That is something I haven't seen for a while! (By the way I took this picture while I was riding....I know I am so talented!)

Sometimes when it is sunny, you just have to borrow your daughter's girly sunglasses.

I got to spend a lot of time with my little niece Zoë. I got to have a sneak preview of her halloween costume. That is the cutest penguin I have ever seen!

I found out that she loves to play the piano and is pretty dang good at it!



She loves eating her toes.

She is so photogenic. She loves trying to play with the camera while you are taking pictures of her.

It was so funny. My sister Rachel was trying to write a check to my mom and Zoë kept on putting her foot on Rachel's hand.

Rachel threw a suprise birthday party for her husband Josh. It was really fun. We had it in a little "tikki lounge" that is in Rachel's neibors garage.

We did the limbo and smashed the fish pinata.

It was the best pinata candy I have ever had. That is becuase Rachel was the one who filled the thing.
